I paint about television. This became my subject naturally. Television has a power over a space and demands out attention. It lights up a dark room with flickering light. We learn more from the television than school. Technology is changing and combining with one another into something new. We are surrounded like never before - Mike Retter

David Cronenberg is a Canadian film director. This painting depicts him on the set of the film CRASH (1996), a highly imaginative film based on the JG Ballard book. A wonderful distillation of Ballard’s story, CRASH also shows Cronenberg’s ideas in perhaps his most subtle shocker to date. With this portrait I wanted to catch the cold blue tones of the film and the Director’s decisive vision.
